Combining gas, water, and electric on converted duplex?

I'm looking at a duplex (upper and lower) to convert into a single family home to live in. Problem is utilities are separate. Is is difficult or costly to combine them so that I don't have 2 bills for each? Any other thoughts or information on what is all involved in converting a duplex. I really need some info b/c I think this house could be great but don't want to get into something too costly.
