How long for F. Betta to establish hierarchy?

I just bought three female bettas and introduced them to my previous female beta in 8 gallons of water. I've read that all the darting and displaying they're doing is establishing hierarchy. How long should I wait before I decide they are fighting and not pecking order? There are about 4-6 hiding places and a male beta in the same tank BUT separated from the others with a clear, water-flow divider (however, I put cloth between the two tanks because the male went insane with the addition of the three females are quarreling - he's settled down now that he can't see them) The male beta has two gallons of water, in case you wanted to go (the tank is 10 gallons)
